The two reality stars used to be close friends but Larsa explained the “demise” of their friendship in Season 4 of Real Housewives of Miami.
Larsa Pippen and the Kardashian family go way back.
The Real Housewives of Miami cast member has made many appearances on the family’s various reality TV shows over the years, taking vacations and enjoying nights out on the town together. And whenever Kim Kardashian visited Miami for the weekend, it was Larsa who picked up the Skims founder.
But in recent years, their friendship has been on the decline. Their public outings grew increasingly rare and rumors began to emerge on social media that there was a rift between the two. And while both women were inclined to ignore the drama, Larsa has since confirmed that they’re no longer the close confidantes they used to be, citing Kim’s divorce from musician Kanye West.
“I was best friends with Kim, and I love her and I love Kanye, and I just was the person that was stuck in the middle,” Larsa said on Season 4 of Real Housewives of Miami. “I was the friend that was basically there and saw everything. And that basically was the demise of our relationship. I knew too much, I was a problem, and so, whatever. That’s kind of what happened.”

Flash back more than 10 years ago and the women were in very different places in their lives. Kim was still single and Larsa was still married to Scottie Pippen. It’s unclear when they specifically met, but it seems their friendship grew when Kim appeared on Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. Larsa made numerous appearances throughout the show’s two-season run, as well as the third season renamed Kourtney and Kim Take Miami.
Notably, in August 2011, Larsa and Scottie attended Kim’s Montecito, Calif. wedding to NBA player Kris Humphries. The marriage would only last 72 days.
Following Kim’s divorce from Kris Humphries, Larsa was by her friend’s side. In one photo from February 2012, Larsa picked Kim up from the airport in Miami. They were later spotted getting dinner with “Food God” Jonathan Cheban.
One of their hangouts was featured on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, in which momager Kris Jenner joined Larsa and Kim for a pole-dancing class. Kim and Larsa sported matching fish nets, shorts, and a tank top in black, while Kris opted for a chic full-body leotard. 2014 to 2018: Kim and Larsa are “best friends”
In the years following, Larsa and Kim continued to team up for various events. Whether it be a party or casual dinner, the duo was frequently spotted together, sometimes wearing coordinated ensembles. And by 2018, they were posing in bikinis together for Kim’s followers.
“Best friends that pick wedgies together stay besties for life,” Kim captioned a since-deleted Instagram photo in, according to PEOPLE.

Eventually, once Kim had children of her own, their outings grew more familial. In 2018, Larsa and Kim, as well as Tracy Romulus, took their daughters on a camping trip, which Larsa documented on her Instagram. Though Larsa found the experience difficult and nearly left after a near-fire, she made it through a cold night of sleeping in a tent.
“I’m glad we got Larsa to stay because I really want to show the kids that there’s not always an easy way out. If we agree to something and we commit to something, then we’re going to follow through with that,” Kim, who is godmother to Larsa’s daughter Sophia Pippen, said of the experience on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
2019: Rumors of Rift Between Kim and Larsa
By the following year, there were rumors that Larsa and Kim were on the outs after Larsa was seen speaking to Kim’s ex Kris Humphries at Coachella. But Larsa cleared up any confusion, explaining in an Instagram comment that her talk with Kris “lasted all of 3 minutes.”
“He told me he’s known Scottie since he was 14 and that he loves him and I said so do I,” she added.

Shortly thereafter, Kim and sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, as well as Kendall and Kylie Jenner, confirmed there was no drama by attending Larsa’s 45th birthday party in June.
Some months later, Larsa celebrated Kim’s 39th birthday in a sweet Instagram post: “Happy bday boo bear!! I love you so much, we’ve been thru everything together. You’re my Bestie for life. The best is yet to come,” she wrote alongside a mirror selfie of herself and Kim.
2020: Kim unfollows Larsa on social media
As Kim’s marriage to Kanye West began to deteriorate, so too did her friendship with Larsa. Amid reports of Kim’s separation, fans noticed that Kim, as well as other Kardashian family members, had unfollowed Larsa on social media.
However, sources told E! Online in July 2020 that Kim, in addition to sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian, unfollowed many friends so she could focus on her family. Larsa seemingly understood Kim’s decision, writing on Twitter, “I woke up this morning blessed and see that everybody is focused on who I am following and who I am not following on social media. I am focused on my children, my new fitness brand Larsapippenfitness, and my relationships in real life… Praying that everybody finds peace in their own lives and focus on what brings THEM happiness.”
November 2020: Larsa addresses friendship speculation
In her first comments on the matter, Larsa explained to the Hollywood Raw podcast that her friendship with Kim was “different” and suggested that Kanye had taken issue with them being so close.
“If your husband feels, like, threatened by my relationship with you, then I don’t want to be that person,” she said, according to E! Online. “I’ve got my own s–t. I don’t want to be, like, that person. Let him feel really comfortable, really secure if I’m not in the picture and just see what happens.”
Larsa also said that she didn’t take Kim unfollowing her personally, adding that she understood Kim was doing “what’s best for your family.”
“I would never do anything to, like, you know, jeopardize our relationship. We’re like sisters. We’re family. But if you have to unfollow me to make your home a better place, then do it, you know?” she continued.
In the same interview, the Housewife went on to address rumors that she had hit on Khloe Kardashian’s ex Tristan Thompson, claiming that she “kind of was seeing Tristan before Khloe.”
“I had him come to L.A. I brought him to a party Kim had. I introduced him to all of them. And then a week later, maybe 10 days later, he started seeing Khloe, which is fine. I don’t even care,” she said. “I’m the type of person I don’t chase what’s not for me. I will never chase a man. I will never, like, put a leash on a man. I don’t do that. I feel like, let you be great. If you want to be with other people, go ahead. I’m great by myself.”
She even said that she hoped Khloe and Tristan, who cheated on the reality star, would reconcile for the sake of their daughter, True.
In Larsa’s words, “I feel like they have a beautiful baby together and they need to work it out. If they love each other, then god bless. I think when you have a family with someone it’s really hard to, like, break up. You do everything in order to keep, you know, your kid’s home together and happy. I applaud them for working things out.”
January 2022: Larsa says she and Kim are friends again
Time apparently heals all wounds, with Larsa telling E! News’ Daily Pop that she and Kim had reconciled.
“We’re in a really good place,” Larsa shared. “I feel like, you know, Kanye and I had a little situation … he reached out to me and he apologized and I feel like we’re in a good place right now.”
She added in a separate interview with Us Weekly that it’s all water under the bridge and she wishes nothing but the best for Kim as they go about their respective lives.
“I couldn’t be happier for them and I know they couldn’t be happier for me and you know, that’s where it is,” she said.
