The Real Madrid frontline has been depleted considerably due to the growing list of absentees as of late.
Vinicius Jr. suffered an injury with the Brazilian national team during the international break and is expected to be out until February 2024.
Now, with the club possessing Rodrygo and Joselu as their only two available forwards, talks of signing a reinforcement for the front line have been doing the rounds lately.
The name of Mauro Icardi has been linked heavily with Real Madrid, with the striker rumoured to be a target for this winter.
Despite prior reports claiming Real Madrid has no intention of recruiting Icardi in the forthcoming transfer window, the Argentine striker’s agent has come out to add fuel to the fire.
Talks are taking place
Elio Letterio Pino, Icardi’s agent, via AS, has said: “There is no official offer yet. I’m in Madrid right now (yesterday). Real Madrid has not made any offer for Icardi. They have not yet made an official offer. But we are talking to those responsible for Real Madrid.
“I will go to Istanbul on Monday to meet with Erden Timur. I will watch the Galatasaray – Manchester United Champions League match on Wednesday. Of course, I will also spend time with Mauro. I can’t say anything more for now.”
Icardi, who is currently plying his trade for Turkish side Galatasaray, has been enjoying a solid season and has thus entered the crosshairs of big clubs, apparently including Real Madrid.
With 15 goals this season from 20 games in all competitions, the Argentine centre-forward has been a consistent scorer for the Turkish powerhouses.
While Icardi’s agent claims there have yet to be any formal offers, the former Barcelona academy product is a subject of discussion between both parties.
If Los Blancos decide to go down the path of signing Icardi, he would reportedly cost them around €15 million.
With anything yet to be formalized, no possibilities can be ruled out. As of now, the club plans to trust young players like Gonzalo Garcia or simply utilize their existing squad players like Brahim Diaz to make up for the absence of Vinicius Jr.
