One Piece Possibly Got Gear Five Idea from Another Manga

While Luffy’s new Gear Five form in One Piece has been groundbreaking and epic, some fans have noticed similarities between it and the power of a character from another popular manga series – Jujutsu Kaisen’s Takaba Fumihiko. Though Takaba was introduced earlier, his comedic abilities were sidelined amidst other more intense events in Jujutsu Kaisen.

However, with Takaba now facing off against Kenjaku, fans are getting a better look at what his Cursed Technique can really do.

Like Luffy’s body in Gear Five, Takaba has extreme physical flexibility and can alter parts of his body in unrealistic ways.

This has led to speculation that perhaps One Piece borrowed some inspiration from Takaba’s abilities when conceptualizing Gear Five’s over-the-top powers.

Of course, Gear Five and Takaba’s techniques have key differences as well. But the potential similarity has intrigued some fans, especially those who closely follow both smash-hit manga series.

As the battles in Jujutsu Kaisen continue, we may get an even clearer picture of whether Jump’s heavyweight series One Piece found inspiration in this comedian’s zany skillset.

One Piece Possibly Got Gear Five Idea from Another Manga

Takaba Fumihiko’s recent battle with Kenjaku in Jujutsu Kaisen has garnered a lot of attention from fans. As highlighted by a post from user @jNelajus about Chapter #242, manga creator Gege Akutami shows immense creativity through Takaba and his outrageous Cursed Technique.

Takaba has the absurd ability to stretch, morph, and alter his body in unrealistic ways during fights. His strange and comedic “attacks” bend reality to extremes.

This over-the-top power set has sparked comparisons to Luffy’s new Gear Five form in One Piece, where Luffy’s body also becomes extremely malleable and cartoonish.

Fans are pondering – if Takaba and Luffy were to face off, how would Takaba’s reality-bending Cursed Technique hold up against Gear Five?

It’s a testament to both Akutami’s and One Piece author Eiichiro Oda’s creativity in conceiving such wacky but formidable power upgrades for their protagonists.

As the Jujutsu Kaisen manga continues to surprise fans with Takaba’s powers, the speculation about how he compares to the now infamous Gear Five will likely keep raging on.

Takaba Exhibits Greater Toon Force Than Luffy

While Luffy’s Gear Five form allows him to stretch, morph, and warp his own body in unrealistic ways, Takaba’s Cursed Technique seems to take reality alteration even further.

Luffy can materialize some physics-defying phenomena like lightning or lifting floors as if they were carpets. However, Takaba can instantly manifest entire scenarios, dimensions, and alternate realities with little effort.

So, despite Luffy likely having greater raw strength, Takaba’s power outpaces Gear Five when it comes to outright breaking the laws of physics through his technique.

If the two characters ever met and battled, it would likely end up being an absurd yet entertaining exchange with no clear winner.

Of course, given Luffy and Takaba’s wacky personalities, they would probably take a liking to each other rather than have an all-out brawl.

But in terms of their reality-bending capabilities, Takaba seemingly has broader potential thanks to the nature of his Cursed Technique.

Gear Five morphs Luffy’s body, but Takaba can reshape entire worlds. So when it comes to toon force and altering reality itself, Takaba seems to have the edge over One Piece’s rubber-bodied pirate.

Luffy’s new Gear Five form and Takaba’s Cursed Technique have intriguing similarities beyond their physics-defying abilities.

Both serve a vital narrative purpose in their respective manga series – injecting an element of lighthearted comedy to balance out building tension.

Gear Five was introduced during One Piece’s Wano Arc climax when stakes facing Luffy and their allies were at an all-time high.

Yet creator Eiichiro Oda confirmed in an interview that he deliberately designed Gear Five to keep One Piece fun-loving and subvert the usually serious tone of massive shonen battles.

Similarly, Takaba reentered Jujutsu Kaisen just as events were reaching a grim fever pitch – popular mentor Gojo was sealed away, protagonists were grieving, and fans braced for tragic outcomes.

However, Takaba’s absurd abilities and fight against Kenjaku, steering into sheer silliness, have dramatically lifted spirits among readers.

In an era where dark, sullen battles have become something of a norm in hit manga/anime series, characters like Luffy and Takaba feel like a breath of fresh air.

Their wacky powersets not only allow for physics-breaking fight scenes but also let creators inject some much-needed humor into their epic sagas.

One can only hope both One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen have more delightful surprises up their sleeves moving forward.

But whether through extreme toon gags or dimension-shifting madness, Luffy and Takaba have certainly brought welcome laughs during their shows’ most intense moments.
