Chelsea reportedly have an interest in Lille striker Jonathan David ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.
Jonathan David is a player who Chelsea are monitoring closely, according to Telefoot journalist Yassin Nfaoui.
Another journalist, Ben Jacobs, also claimed on X back in June that Lille valued the 23-year-old at around €60m (£51m), so he may be a fairly expensive signing this month.
David is not having the best season, scoring just six goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances. However, last term he was in excellent form, netting 24 times in 37 top-flight outings.
To put the above into perspective, it was five fewer than what Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe managed.

David’s overall goal record in Ligue 1 is quite impressive, with the Canada international also scoring 15 goals in 38 games back in the 2021/22 season.
It makes sense that he is one striker currently on Chelsea’s radar. However, it would be a bit of a surprise if they signed him during this transfer window.
David is Lille’s talisman and they know it will be practically impossible to replace a forward of his quality this late in the month.
Ultimately, we think Chelsea are going to wait until the summer to sign a striker, who could end up being Napoli’s Victor Osimhen.
Journalist Sacha Tavolieri has claimed that the Nigerian has chosen to join Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the end of the season.
Bringing Osimhen to Stamford Bridge seems to be what Chelsea are working on right now, rather than a deal for David. If they cannot get the 25-year-old, though, the Lille striker does not look like a bad alternative considering his record.
However, while it is not impossible, you just cannot see Lille selling their main No.9 at this stage of the transfer window.
